Fisker Galpin Rocket 640x424

Galpin, Fisker Plan “Ultimate American Muscle Car” for L.A.

Henrik Fisker, designer of the Fisker Karma that we named our 2012 Design of the Year, as well as many other vehicles, has teamed up with tuner Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) to build a new car that will be shown at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show next week. The new model, called the Rocket, is being billed by the duo as the “Ultimate American Muscle Car.”

Other than a loan teaser sketch, few details have been revealed about the upcoming model. We do know that the Galpin Fisker Rocket will feature a carbon fiber body, however. With Galpin’s extensive history of modifying existing cars, such as the Ford GT-based Galpin GTR1, the new Rocket will likely be based on an existing platform. The wide rear haunches and fastback silhouette teased in this photo almost suggest the car will be based on a Ford Mustang.

The sketch appears to share some of its rear styling with the defunct Fisker Karma premium plug-in hybrid sedan. The swooping front and fender lines also vaguely recall the Karma. Galpin and Fisker will also likely revamp the interior of whatever donor car has been used for the Rocket. Given that it’s claimed to be the “Ultimate American Muscle Car,” we also suspect some performance upgrades are in store.

We’ll have to wait until the Rocket is revealed next Thursday, November 20, to find out what GAS and Fisker have in store.
