Ford Transit Skyliner Concept

  • Concept based on the 2015 Ford Transit showcases Transit’s capability and flexibility
  • Bespoke luxury motor coach designed by Ford Motor Company and built by Galpin Auto Sports provides immersive comfort
  • Four dynamic experience modes – theater, business, reception and travel – transform Skyliner’s environment and make the most of Transit’s 487 cubic feet of interior space

The future of ultra-premium land transportation is here, and it comes with a spacious interior that morphs to support immersive entertainment or a business meeting with the swipe of a smart phone.

Ford today unveiled the Transit Skyliner Concept luxury van to illustrate how versatile and capable the all-new 2015 Transit will be when it goes on sale later this year.

Transit Skyliner embodies the spirit of luxury motor coaches and builds on the heritage of custom vans, showing how Transit can be customized to fit the needs of limousines and high-end transportation services as well as commercial fleets, shuttle providers and individual small-business owners.

Inside, Transit Skyliner can transform into four dramatic modes – theater, business, reception and travel – with movable custom-designed seats that reposition automatically, controlled by a smart phone or tablet.

  • Theater mode: The seats face the retractable movie screen and recline for an optimal cinematic viewing experience
  • Business mode: The table unfolds and the seats are gathered around it for face-to-face conversations
  • Reception mode: The sliding door is open and the seats are arranged for easy entertaining while parked at an event
  • Travel mode: Passengers can position their seats for ultimate comfort and solitude

The entire interior – from seats to mood lighting and entertainment technology – is integrated into a single electronics system controlled through a smart phone or tablet. Refreshments can be served from Transit Skyliner’s built-in bar. Custom luggage was specially designed to complement Transit Skyliner’s one-of-a-kind plush leather seats.

“Traveling in Transit Skyliner is like teleporting,” says Tim Stoehr, Ford’s manager for commercial truck marketing. “You step into the vehicle and you are immediately immersed in the custom interior and high-tech audio visual system. The next thing you know, you are arriving at your destination.”

The exterior of the Transit Skyliner features a custom paint scheme accented by contrasting lower trim and chrome highlights, and the dynamic design emphasizes Transit’s modern European look.

“Transit Skyliner is the ultimate expression of a custom Transit,” Stoehr says. “We created Skyliner to highlight the potential of the Transit platform for the limousine market and introduce Transit as the next generation of modern, cool, fuel-efficient vans.”

Transit Skyliner’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine will be available as an option for Transit customers who want the power of a V8 with the fuel efficiency of a V6.

With cargo volume of 487 cubic feet and cargo floor-to-roof height of 81.5 inches in the long wheelbase/extended body high-roof model, Transit can be tailor-made to create a private jet for the road. The unique custom limo design of the Transit Skyliner proves the capabilities of Transit go far beyond the needs of shuttles, commercial fleets and general contractors.

The 2015 Transit will offer two wheelbases, three roof heights and three powertrains, making it capable to fit many needs without body modifications.

Transit Skyliner will make its auto show debut at the New York International Auto Show on April 16 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

MSN Auto Selects the 1969 Ford Mach IV “Four-Engine” Mustang as one of the best of SEMA

449bf9f4d43e4bf4b9d8584f86ac9211

Galpin Ford has been building and customizing unique one-off vehicles for years, and this is an early example of the company’s creative genius. As the name says, this dragster — built by Gary Weckesser — is powered by four V8 engines. Based on a 1969 Ford Mustang funny car, this dragster was quite popular on the show circuit from 1969 to 1975. But it wasn’t simply a show car; its four engines put out an estimated 3000 horsepower. The Mach IV could hit a quarter-mile in around seven seconds at a speed of 180 mph.

The Back-Up Pickup Wheelstander Recreation Debuts at SEMA 2013

back-up-pickup-wheelstander-dave-shuten-galpin-auto-sports-justice-brothers-sema-2013011

Bam! Direct from the glory days of drag-racing exhibitionists comes this recreation of the wheelstanding Back-Up Pickup. We first brought this to you in a news item when the truck was under construction, and now Dave Shuten at Galpin Auto Sports has the project complete and on display at the 2013 SEMA Show. He cranked out the complete buildup in 12 weeks, but now will be slowed down repairing a gack in the front corner of the truck by the delivery van that shipped it to Las Vegas. At the show, we had the chance to hang out with builder Shuten and with Ed Justice Jr., whose company Justice Bros. was a major sponsor of the truck when it was new. So was Galpin Ford, from 1969 to 1971, hence the connection to Galpin Auto Sports.

Hyundai, GAS And The Walking Dead Bring Fan-Designed Zombie Survival Machine To Life

Zombies beware! Hyundai will welcome the newest addition to its zombie-fighting family at New York Comic-Con: Anson Kuo’s Santa Fe Zombie Survival Machine. Aimed at effective undead annihilation, the fan-built vehicle will be on display for the living on the show floor on October 10.

“Having Anson’s winning design on display at New York Comic-Con is a fun way to celebrate The Walking Dead’s 10th anniversary,” said Robert Kirkman.

As part of The Walking Dead Chop Shop configurator app designed by Hyundai and INNOCEAN USA (launched during San Diego Comic-Con), fans have designed thousands of custom zombie survival machines using the Hyundai Veloster Turbo, Santa Fe or Elantra. This summer, Kuo’s Santa Fe design was picked as the winner out of more than 82,500 fan submissions. His winning vehicle was constructed by Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) and the real-life machine will be unveiled on the New York Comic-Con show floor on October 10 at the Future US booth.

Kuo, who hails from Arizona, created an urban camouflaged Zombie Survival Machine featuring: knife blades, an automatic crossbow, razor-wired windows, three machine guns, a samurai sword, aluminum armor and a muffler silencer. His mission was to create a stealthy vehicle with abundant cargo space for supplies and passengers, maximizing survivability against the undead. Having knives as a primary weapon ensures scarce ammunition is conserved, said Kuo. This Hyundai will be a true zombie obliterator.

“We love Anson Kuo’s take on this Santa Fe Zombie Survival Machine – it’s creative… and deadly,” said Steve Shannon, vice president, Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “With help from the popularity of The Walking Dead franchise, Hyundai continues to expand the conversation around Hyundai vehicles with young and passionate audiences.”

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Hyundai unveiled a customized Veloster Zombie Survival Machine designed by Robert Kirkman and fabricated by GAS.

You Rank It: Galpin Gasser

HRDP-131200-BUCK-01-623x398

Built by Galpin Auto Sports’ Sales Manager Steve Carpenter, the Galpin Gasser III is a throwback to the original low-buck hot rod. Located in Los Angeles, Galpin Ford is one of the oldest dealerships in the country and its custom shop is Galpin Auto Sports (GAS).

Steve started off with a Custom Tudor Sedan (Ford’s lowest trim level) he snagged of eBay and then added a modern 302 bored to 331 ci and topped with tunnel ram manifold with dual quads; the exhaust is routed through custom fenderwell headers. A Borg-Warner four-speed manual puts all 500+ horses down on the pavement via 4.11 gears in a nine-inch Currie rear. And the front? That’s what a gasser is all about, so you’ll find a 1950s Ford truck straight axle lending to the Custom’s characteristic rake.

GTR1

Galpin is proud to introduce its first coach built supercar – the Galpin Ford GTR1. Continuing Galpin’s 60-year legacy of customizing vehicles, the GTR1 is based on the Ford GT and an interpretation of what it may have looked and performed like had it continued it’s evolution. The GTR1 boasts a powerplant capable of an estimated 1024 HP and 739 ft-lbs of torque, generated from a twin turbocharged 5.4L V8 engine that is mechanically capable of speeds in excess of 225 mph – making it a truly modern and bold American Mid-Engine Supercar.

While designed by Galpin Auto Sports, the hand crafted all aluminum body was widened 5 inches compared to the Ford GT, and constructed by renowned concept car builder Metalcrafters. It features 20 inch forged aluminum knock off wheels, Pirelli P-Zero tires, 6 piston brakes with full carbon rotors, jeweled headlamps and tail lamps and carbon fiber accents. The interior features a machined aluminum instrument cluster, a McIntosh sound system, and luxurious hand fabricated leather trimmed seats, dash, door panels and headliner.
