Ford Transit Skyliner Concept

  • Concept based on the 2015 Ford Transit showcases Transit’s capability and flexibility
  • Bespoke luxury motor coach designed by Ford Motor Company and built by Galpin Auto Sports provides immersive comfort
  • Four dynamic experience modes – theater, business, reception and travel – transform Skyliner’s environment and make the most of Transit’s 487 cubic feet of interior space

The future of ultra-premium land transportation is here, and it comes with a spacious interior that morphs to support immersive entertainment or a business meeting with the swipe of a smart phone.

Ford today unveiled the Transit Skyliner Concept luxury van to illustrate how versatile and capable the all-new 2015 Transit will be when it goes on sale later this year.

Transit Skyliner embodies the spirit of luxury motor coaches and builds on the heritage of custom vans, showing how Transit can be customized to fit the needs of limousines and high-end transportation services as well as commercial fleets, shuttle providers and individual small-business owners.

Inside, Transit Skyliner can transform into four dramatic modes – theater, business, reception and travel – with movable custom-designed seats that reposition automatically, controlled by a smart phone or tablet.

  • Theater mode: The seats face the retractable movie screen and recline for an optimal cinematic viewing experience
  • Business mode: The table unfolds and the seats are gathered around it for face-to-face conversations
  • Reception mode: The sliding door is open and the seats are arranged for easy entertaining while parked at an event
  • Travel mode: Passengers can position their seats for ultimate comfort and solitude

The entire interior – from seats to mood lighting and entertainment technology – is integrated into a single electronics system controlled through a smart phone or tablet. Refreshments can be served from Transit Skyliner’s built-in bar. Custom luggage was specially designed to complement Transit Skyliner’s one-of-a-kind plush leather seats.

“Traveling in Transit Skyliner is like teleporting,” says Tim Stoehr, Ford’s manager for commercial truck marketing. “You step into the vehicle and you are immediately immersed in the custom interior and high-tech audio visual system. The next thing you know, you are arriving at your destination.”

The exterior of the Transit Skyliner features a custom paint scheme accented by contrasting lower trim and chrome highlights, and the dynamic design emphasizes Transit’s modern European look.

“Transit Skyliner is the ultimate expression of a custom Transit,” Stoehr says. “We created Skyliner to highlight the potential of the Transit platform for the limousine market and introduce Transit as the next generation of modern, cool, fuel-efficient vans.”

Transit Skyliner’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine will be available as an option for Transit customers who want the power of a V8 with the fuel efficiency of a V6.

With cargo volume of 487 cubic feet and cargo floor-to-roof height of 81.5 inches in the long wheelbase/extended body high-roof model, Transit can be tailor-made to create a private jet for the road. The unique custom limo design of the Transit Skyliner proves the capabilities of Transit go far beyond the needs of shuttles, commercial fleets and general contractors.

The 2015 Transit will offer two wheelbases, three roof heights and three powertrains, making it capable to fit many needs without body modifications.

Transit Skyliner will make its auto show debut at the New York International Auto Show on April 16 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

GTR1

Galpin is proud to introduce its first coach built supercar – the Galpin Ford GTR1. Continuing Galpin’s 60-year legacy of customizing vehicles, the GTR1 is based on the Ford GT and an interpretation of what it may have looked and performed like had it continued it’s evolution. The GTR1 boasts a powerplant capable of an estimated 1024 HP and 739 ft-lbs of torque, generated from a twin turbocharged 5.4L V8 engine that is mechanically capable of speeds in excess of 225 mph – making it a truly modern and bold American Mid-Engine Supercar.

1932 Edelbrock Special HIghboy Roadster

Known as the “Edelbrock Special,” Bill Likes’ roadster could be considered the quintessential racing highboy of its era. Bill was the man to beat every time he appeared. Initially using a 1932 roadster body on a 1932 Ford frame painted dark blue, stripped of every nonessential part and packing a potent flathead, the clean, well- turned-out Likes highboy was a top points getter at SCTA and Russetta meets. It was photographed in Hot Rod magazine and Fawcett hot rod publications of the era. The machine shop manager at Edelbrock, Bill Likes always ran Edelbrock-built flatheads, fitted with his employer’s latest equipment and tuned to perfection by Bobby Meeks.

Iron Orchid

Presenting Iron Orchid: Galpin’s first entry for the historic Ridler Award at Detroit’s Autorama. A one-off period correct ’34 Ford 5-window coupe, built by Dave Shuten of GAS.

“Iron Orchid” is a one-off fully custom show car  built from a 1934 Ford Five-Window Coupe. Built over the course of 18 months, the Iron Orchid emulates the extreme show cars of the 60′s using hundreds of custom one-off and pre-1965 parts. This classic 1934 Ford Coupe has been taken to the level of “critical mass excellence!” -Robert Williams.

Separating Galpin’s ’34 from other hot rods on display were a number of striking elements that rely on innovative or never-before-seen uses of materials and finishes. Clear blue acrylic panels were used for the windshield and windows, while also replacing steel in select spaces, allowing the driver and on-lookers to see many of the unique working mechanicals of the car. The acrylic panels in the hood provide views of the upholstered firewall and engine even while closed. Inside, acrylic is also used, affording the passenger and driver an unobstructed look at the chromed transmission internals. More than 2,000 individually chromed pieces went into the car.

One of the centerpieces, requiring special attention due to its prominence, is the grille. Specialized silver solder and lead were used to create a solid piece that, after chroming, effectively became a fluid-like sculpture at the front of the Ford. In addition to the work completed, Shuten and Boeckmann relied on additional help from both inside Galpin, as well as other respected friends. The drivetrain, a 1964 Ford 427 side oiler V8, mated to a 1965 Ford top-loader 4-speed transmission, was built and prepared by Galpin Classic Auto Service.

All the chrome was completed by Steve Tracy at Advanced Plating; the one-off four-piece hood, to accept the acrylic inserts, was custom built by Bobby Walden, and a custom set of tires were created for the ’34 by Hurst Racing Tires, which were modeled after Mickey Thompson Super Stock Drag series. The over-the-top period-correct full-custom paint was completed by Darryl Hollenbeck of Vintage Color Studio.

Though this was Galpin’s first entry contending for the Autorama’s Ridler Award, they’re no stranger to the world of award-winning customs and hotrods. In fact, this is Galpin’s 60th year of customizing cars both classic and new. In addition to customizing, GAS offers full builds of hot rods and customs, full restorations and restomod fabrications. GAS also maintains the world’s largest collection of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth cars and memorabilia, as well as a collection of historically significant race cars, hot rods and show cars from the ’50′s and ’60′s. In GAS’ retail store, customers have access to the full-line of parts, accessories, and branded merchandise, from the legendary Moon Eyes and So-Cal Speed Shops. For enthusiasts wishing to commission their own turn-key vehicle, the expert staff at GAS will design and build whatever the buyer chooses, following the mantra “If you can dream it, we can build it.”

2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Halo 4 Edition

Galpin Auto Sports was asked by the Halo 4 team at Microsoft, and Antenna to build a military inspired F-150 Raptor that could be inserted directly into Halo 4, and driven by Masterchief. Step one was to completely dis-assemble the truck and add a custom paint scheme using multiple matte finish greens worthy of a military vehicle on the front lines. The team at GAS also added Line-X spray coating to all fender flares, bumpers, and the bed of the truck. Adding an aggressive stance was achieved by raising the Fox coil over suspension 2.5 inches and adding Ford racing bead lock wheels, and Nitto 35″ mud grappler tires. GAS also added a Whipple industries supercharger and Magnaflow exhaust giving the truck a more aggressive sound and putting over 500 hp to the ground.

GAS knew the inside of this vehicle had to be a gamers paradise. The team added two 7″ head rest monitors and one 10″ drop down monitor. These screens are best put to use by the limited edition Halo4 X box mounted in the custom build “UNSC” enclosure under the rear seat. GAS militarized the interior even further by creating a custom leather and canvas interior that not only looks good but will stand the test of time on the battle field.

The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is one of those rare, once-in-a-decade vehicles that stands out above the crowd, and has almost universal appeal among truck enthusiasts. The conversion that Galpin Auto Sports achieved on the Halo 4 raptor takes things to another level, upping the antie of custom possibilities on the Ford SVT Raptor.

1965 Shelby GT-350 Barn Find

Garaged in the early 1970s where it remained for 40 years, this all-original 1965 Shelby GT-350, originally sold to Galpin Ford, has only 44,000 original miles. Galpin’s Classic Auto Service was challenged with keeping all the patina while getting the Mustang into road-worthy condition. This pony was given a complete major tune up: the brake system was refurbished while retaining the original components; all component fluids were changed; the heater was rebuilt with a new core; the cooling system was restored to ensure efficient operation and reliability; and the wheel alignment was checked and set to specification. This GT-350 features original Wimbledon White paint with Guardsman Blue stripes, original 289 cid V8 engine giving 306HP, and original interior! Other specs include a 4-Speed Borg Warner Full Synchromesh T10 Transmission and 9.5” Kelsey Hayes Front Disc Brakes. After its extensive servicing, the GT-350 was driven by Galpin VP Beau Boeckmann over 300 miles from L.A. to Pebble Beach, where – culminating in a perfect performance – the “barn find” was shown at the Quail Lodge Motor Sports Gathering at the Concours d’Elegance!
