Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s “Tweedy Pie” is one of the most recognized T-Buckets in history, selling over 11 million model kits and counting since 1963! Tweedy Pie is a 1923 Ford Model T on a ‘32 Ford chassis, featuring some of Roth’s earliest pinstriping. It runs a Chevy 265 V8 with 6 Stromberg 97 carbs, Ford 3-speed trans and a banjo rear end. Owned for over 40 years by the Lavoy family, Tweedy Pie was sold in 2006 to Larry Tarantolo, who lightly restored it along with fellow Roth aficionado, Dave Shuten of Galpin Auto Sports. Much to everyone’s surprise, it was then thrust back into the public eye at the 2006 Detroit AutoRama, where Ed “Big Daddy” Roth was honored as the featured builder of the year. Tweedy Pie is now at home at Galpin with the largest collection of Ed Roth’s custom creations and memorabilia!
The goal for the Evora RTR was to take a stock 2011 2+2 Lotus Evora Coupe and redesign it as a street-legal version of the Lotus Type 124 track car. To begin, the front splitter, side sill extensions and rear wing uprights on the exterior were custom machined from aluminum and powder-coated black. The door mirror caps and wing tips were also subjected to the same treatment. Be sure to look out for the wingtips that incorporate a Union Jack GAS logo! The rear horizontal wing, which incorporates the original high-level brake light, is finished from fiberglass epoxy and painted to match the Quartz Silver body. GAS also added vinyl black racing stripes and door decals. Sector 111 supplied the 19”/20” Evora Monza Wheels (direct from Italy), which are finished in a flat black paint and paired with Hankook tires. The Flowmaster exhaust system gives it a throaty growl and moves the peak horsepower closer to 300HP. For the interior, GAS added Alcantara seat inserts in a light gray color to match the Alcantara headliner. This award winning Lotus Evora has been transformed into the ultimate special edition street-legal, race inspired Evora!

Originally featured on the cover of Rod & Custom in September 1963, and soon thereafter offered as a Revell model kit, the fascination with Roth’s Mysterion has never declined. This faithful recreation by Dave Shuten of Galpin Auto Sports, painstakingly scaled from the aforementioned model kit, included creating the body and nose from scratch and building the form for the custom blown acrylic bubble top. Dave then drenched it in custom House Of Kolor Kandy Lime Gold Pearl paint with Lime Green pinstriping. The one-off chrome chassis features twin 406 cubic-inch Ford Thunderbird engines and dual FMX transmissions with each driving its own rear wheel. The rear axle incorporates dual ’46 Ford truck banjo center sections with ’48 Ford drum brakes, one-off front wheels 16×3 with motorcycle tires and Radir 15×8 rear wheels with custom grooved piecrust whitewall slicks. Numerous extremely rare vintage parts were used in the recreation including; six Stromberg/ Bendix WW carburetors, a silver metal flake Cragar steering wheel, a ’62 Plymouth Sport Fury headlight bezel, ’49 Ford accessory backup lights, Lucas headlamps, two full sets of Stewart Warner twin blue gauges, and a vintage 63’ Panasonic solid state televison. Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s Mysterion is still the wildest show rod ever built!

Hot Rod Magazine calls it “the most incredible barn find ever!” Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s Orbitron, created in 1964 and lost shortly thereafter for nearly 35 years, was recently uncovered in Mexico, serving as a makeshift dumpster in front of an adult bookshop!Michael Lightbourn rescued the fiberglass-bodied hot rod and Beau Boeckmann, president of Galpin Auto Sports, acquired it specifically to restore it to its former glory. The restoration included saving the original engine transmission and carburetor along with the rechroming of 2,600 individual pieces. G.A.S. was able to find a duplicate vintage TV and blue fur. And there was enough of one of everything on the car to replicate the balance-such as the spinners on the wheels. This car is out of this world!
