G.A.S./SPX Widebody Mustang nets $160,000 for St. Judes Children’s Hospital

The time has come for the custom widebody Mustang from Galpin Auto Sports to find a new owner. Built by Galpin for industrial company SPX, this specially built Mustang features a hand-built body that widens the car by an incredible nine inches highlighted by PPG Candy Apple Red paint. Under the hood is a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 producing over 700 horsepower, and it has also been fitted with forged three-piece wheels, a custom suede interior, upgraded exhaust system and more.

Whether it was the look and sound of the car or whether bidders were simply feeling generous, this attention-grabbing pony car nabbed a final bid of $160,000, all of which will be donated to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. You can see our live photos and video from SPEED below.

The G.A.S. Mustang Retracting Hardtop in Action

Usually when somebody mentions a retractable hardtop, import cars are the first to come to mind for most people. What about a domestic convertible hardtop Ford Mustang? Galpin Auto Sports, or G.A.S., teamed up with Adjwok Designs based out of Malta, Europe to create this attention-grabbing Orange Pearl painted Mustang complete with retracting top.

G.A.S. built this and brought it to the SEMA 2010 show. As I’m sure you already know, The G.A.S. team are definitely no strangers to amazing custom builds as you have probably seen their crazy high quality builds on the show Pimp My Ride featured on MTV.

duPont REGISTRY has been Galpinized, buys first wide-body Mustang Convertible

Stealing the spotlight from the nearby white Ferrari California in the duPont REGISTRY showroom is a Mustang so sharp, duPont REGISTRY Co-Founder, Thomas duPont, even describes it as a “eyeball show-stopper.” Of course, since he also owns the sinister-looking convertible, he may be a little biased.

The 2012 Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) wide-body Mustang GT Convertible is truly unique because the kit is one-of-a-kind. GAS does not have the one-size-fits-all mentality, so no two GAS wide-body kits are the same. Each one is hand built specifically for the car. The kit stretches the car’s width by a full nine inches, and, unlike most fiberglass body kits, this one features a hand-formed metal construction.

What do you get when you take a late-model Mustang GT and infuse a bit of 1969 Boss 429 Mustang into the mix? The Galpin SPX Charity Wide Body Mustang is a good example. This looker of a car first debuted at the 2011 SEMA Show in Las Vegas this past November. In January it will cross the block at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale show.The good folks at Galpin Auto Sports, in Van Nuys, Calif., were selected by SPX Corporation to create this special one‐of‐a kind high‐performance Ford Mustang last summer. All proceeds from the sale of the car will benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Cancer affects so many families across America and we’re very excited at the opportunity to utilize our talents to help raise money to fight this terrible disease,” said GAS President Beau Boeckmann. “We’re honored SPX chose us as the shop to build this vehicle. Once completed, this car has tremendous potential to raise a lot of money for an organization that benefits a great cause.”

Hand Fabricated Wide Body

The Mustang is made of a hand fabricated all‐metal wide‐body that stretches the vehicle nine inches wider than a stock Mustang. Better yet, it features a Ford Racing Supercharger, with a custom dyno Tuned 5.0L V8 engine, which Galpin says can produce 711 horsepower. Other goodies include a JLT GT500 Custom Cold-Air Kit, custom cams (Comp Cams Max Effort Street/Strip & Comp Cams Phaser Limiter Kit), and a Custom Bassani Exhaust with Electronically Controlled Exhaust Cutout System.

A Candy Apple Red Pearl Beauty

On the outside you’ll find a custom formulated PPG Candy Apple Red Pearl Paint exterior paint job, in addition to numerous exterior features such as a custom fabricated front splitter and a 2012 Boss Laguna Seca Rear Spoiler. In keeping with the 1969 Boss 429 theme, the hood features a custom modified hood scoop from a 1969 BOSS 429 Mustang. The Mustang also features custom painted valve covers and Canton polished aluminum intercooler and radiator overflow tanks.

You’ll also find sealed rear quarter windows, as well as fully functional rear side scoops designed to cool the car’s brakes.

Equally Impressive on the Inside

Behind the wheel, drivers will find the car to be an improved machine when compared to a standard Mustang. This is thanks to a set of Ford Racing Performance Springs (1.5 inches lower front, 1.25 inches lower rear) and Wilwood brakes for extra stopping power. We’re talking about 14-Inch cross drilled and slotted rotors in addition to 6 Piston (front) and 4 Piston (rear) calipers. The Mustang rides on Custom-Built Forgiato 3-piece wheels (21×11 Inches in the front and 22×14 Inches in the rear), equipped with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires.The Galpin Auto Sports team went all out; making sure the interior of the Mustang was equally impressive. The car features custom red suede and black leather trimmed upholstery with a suede headliner featuring red contrast stitching. It also features custom embroidered headrests. The steering wheel has also been re-upholstered with suede. SPX gauges are also a part of the mix, with drivers being able to take advantage of a SPX Sunpro Gauge Pod Kit and an SPX Sunpro Tachometer and Shift light.

1968 Boss 351 Trans Am Ranchero

In just 8 weeks, GAS and Galpin’s Classic Auto Service took a “junk yard dog” and created an awesome custom. First, the team completely dismantled the car then refurbished, rebuilt and modified each and every component of the vehicle. Powering this custom is a Barrington Engines custom BOSS 351 engine producing roughly 450 HP, backed up by an original Ford 4-speed transmission rebuilt and modified for road racing. Power is transmitted through a Currie 9-inch rear end with heavy-duty axles and 3:89 Trac-Lok. The vehicle’s suspension system incorporates a Total Control Products coil over front suspension system and Maeco Motorsports modified road racing rear suspension system. Keeping it to the ground are American Racing 17 x 9.5 427 Cobra style wheels with Nitto NT05 315 / 35 ZR 17 tires. To stop the machine, Galpin’s Classic Auto Service and GAS installed a Wilwood 4-wheel disc brake system. The interior features a custom roll cage, Scat Elite bucket seats with a 5-point racing seatbelt system, and to keep it old school, a factory original AM radio. This creation has gone from scrap yard to custom show car!

2011 Ford Explorer XXVI

Galpin Auto Sports set out to demonstrate its design and audio prowess with this exotic – yet tough – custom Explorer. It features a completely custom one-of-a-kind Matte Bruised Blue pearl paint designed by GAS and mixed by PPG. Matching matte finished headlights and taillights and custom fabricated grille complement the paint scheme. Bringing it closer to the ground, GAS lowered this Explorer with Eibach springs and sat it on 24-inch Savini Wheels with Pirelli tires. A jaw dropping complete custom interior features custom leather seats with genuine Stingray inserts. Matching leather and suede door panels complement the custom suede headliner. The insane surround sound system features 26 JL Audio speakers wrapped in LED trim which pumps out 2000 watts! To top it off, GAS installed an iPad that controls everything electronic including the 360-degree camera protecting you from the paparazzi!

2011 Lotus Evora R2R

The goal for the Evora R2R was to take a stock 2011 2+2 Lotus Evora Coupe and redesign it as a street-legal version of the Lotus Type 124 track car. To begin, the front splitter, side sill extensions and rear wing uprights on the exterior were custom machined from aluminum and powder-coated black. The door mirror caps and wing tips were also subjected to the same treatment. Be sure to look out for the wingtips that incorporate a Union Jack GAS logo. The rear horizontal wing, which incorporates the original high-level brake light, is finished from fiberglass epoxy and painted to match the Quartz Silver body. GAS added vinyl black racing stripes and door decals. Sector 111 supplied the 19″/20″ Evora Monza Wheels (direct from Italy), which are finished in a flat black paint and paired with Hankook tires. The Flowmaster exhaust system gives it a throaty growl and moves the peak horsepower closer to 300hp. For the interior, GAS added Alcantara seat inserts in a light gray color to match the Alcantara headliner. This award winning Lotus Evora has been transformed into the ultimate special edition street-legal, race inspired Evora!

2011 Aston Martin V12 Vantage Coupe - “AMWH”

The V12 Vantage coupe has been called the “fastest and most agile Vantage ever” this one has been upgraded by GAS to include an all-Pearl Paint scheme with a flat matte finish which has been carried over to incorporate the central veneer of the cockpit. Slick black paint has been applied to the front grille and chrome window surrounds. The interior factory styling complements the stunning exterior color with a Chancellor Red Semi-Aniline Leather and Alcantara finish. Gorgeous carbon fiber pieces from the Vantage Collection are also incorporated into the exterior door mirror caps, side sills, exterior side strakes, enhanced rear lip spoiler, interior upper door caps, interior A/C vents and three engine strut braces under the hood! The Flowmaster free-flowing exhaust system enhances the exhaust note over and above the factory system and adds approximately 10hp to the overall performance. Forgiato custom 20″ Aggio 5-spoke wheels are finished in Matte Black and paired with a set of super sticky Pirelli tires. With this supercar you get it all – performance, handling and styling!

2011 Jaguar XK Roadster

This new 2011 Jaguar XK convertible receives special treatment by GAS with the gorgeous addition of custom Primrose paint, 20” black chrome Jaguar wheels, blacked out chrome trim, charcoal leather interior with ivory stitching and custom Primrose painted interior trim. Retractable Hardtop Mustang

G.A.S. introduces the very first handcrafted, one-off 2011 Mustang GT retractable hardtop designed by Joseph Adjwok and customized by Galpin Auto Sports! Carefully designed to replace the existing soft top roof, this flush fitting retractable tonneau cover automatically stows the roof away from the luggage area, allowing room for storage. G.A.S. gave this one-of-a-kind pony a PPG custom Orange Pearl paint job and black custom leather interior with complementary orange pinstripe accents, 20” black chrome stagger wheels, Ford Racing Suspension kit, CDC front spoiler and Magnaflow Exhaust system. This beast is waiting to be unleashed with its mighty 5.0L V8 engine giving 412 hp and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, which is mated to a responsive 6-speed automatic transmission. It’s time to put the top down and GO-GAS-GO!

Boss 302-X

GAS was inspired to build the ultimate BOSS 302. Starting out with an already beefy 2012 BOSS 302, GAS gave it an extra 9 inches with a custom one-of-a-kind handmade all metal wide body that takes this awesome vehicle to a whole new level. Once painted with a GAS designed special one-of-a-kind Matte Orange Pearl PPG paint with custom painted black BOSS graphics, GAS added a custom-built ProCharger supercharger kit to bring this already impressive vehicle over 780HP! Now to put the power to the ground, one-off massive one-piece forged Forgiato wheels were wrapped in Pirelli 335/30/20 rear and 295/35/20 racing compound front tires. A Borla attack exhaust, Stoptech vented and grooved front and rear rotors, Brembro front calipers, Ford Racing lowering springs, Laguna Seca rear wing and Extreme front air dam, and custom sealed rear quarter windows round out the exterior. Inside features a 6-point roll cage painted to match the exterior paint of the car, BOSS 302-X custom embroidered racing seats and a Laguna Seca gauge pod. For the finishing touch, GAS custom painted a racing helmet that also matches the car!

TopSpeed – 2012 Ford Focus ATK By Galpin Auto Sports

Galpin Auto Sports isn’t the type that anyone would consider tame. The American aftermarket tuning company speaks the language of aggression and all that certainly manifested itself in their latest Ford Focus project called the “ATK.”

You don’t need to be a genius to figure out that “ATK” stands for ’attack’ and that’s exactly what this car is all about. The sports hatch offers a fantastic aesthetic look, thanks to an Alchemy Gray paint finish coated with metallic gold pearls by PPG. The attractive paint job on the Focus ATK is complemented by a new 3d Carbon rear spoiler, gloss-black badges, and frosted taillights. The Focus also gets handling and set-up improvements, thanks to the addition of Eibach lowering springs, a Borla exhaust system, and a set of 19″ gold powdercoated Monotech wheels with Vredestein tires.

In all, it comes equipped with a JL Audio HD900/5 1000-Watt Amplifier powering two JL Audio 10W3v3 Subs in a custom enclosure, complete with LED Accent Lighting. Sold at No Reserve

The 2012 charity auction at Scottsdale’s Barrett-Jackson event will mark the third consecutive year that SPX has donated a car to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The car will be sold at no reserve.

This customized 2012 Tony Hawk Edition Ford Explorer was one of the items auctioned off at the 2011 Standup for Skateparks benefit in Las Vegas helping raise a combined total of $640,000! It was an extraordinary collaborative effort between Tony Hawk, Galpin Auto Sports and DUB! Tony Hawk Foundation’s mission is to create free, quality skateparks for at-risk youth throughout the U.S.! To make this ride insane, GAS added Monotone Silver paint with custom paintwork to the hood and custom Tony Hawk painted logos. Then GAS blacked out the grille and trim, added side vents, and a set of Savini multi-piece wheels paired with performance Pirelli tires. For the inside, a luxurious custom Katzkin leather interior and for entertainment, GAS added a full Sony Entertainment System, Sony PS3 Gaming Console and, of course, a set of custom skateboard racks. This is as loaded as a Ford Explorer gets!

Ford F-650 XUV

This F650 has undergone a 4WD conversion and is now the ultimate everyday pick up capable of towing all your summer/winter toys and much more! What was once a heavy-duty “commercial vehicle” is now a street ready XUV (Xtreme Utility Vehicle) complete with a custom truck bed to give this monster pickup added utility! Some of the features on this bad boy include 22×5 Alcoa Wheels with Michelin tires, an MBRP 8” exhaust stack, Turbo-Back exhaust system, polished stainless steel fuel tanks, and AMP Research retractable power steps. Galpin Motors today announced visitors to the Los Angeles International Auto Show will get to see more than 20 cars next week as part of displays from both Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) and Galpin Aston Martin. Included in the fleet are some of the record 12 premieres shown exclusively to the automotive aftermarket industry at last week’s 2011 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas and never before seen by the public.

In Kentia Hall at the GAS branded big rig, the general public will get the first opportunity to see a fleet of more than 15customized, hand-built, project cars shown by Galpin Auto Sports at this year’s SEMA Show, 10 of which were exclusive SEMA debuts and have never been publicly seen before.

Also included in the GAS display are project cars including the SPX charity wide-body Mustang built to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; a 700-hp matte black GAS-built ’67 Chevelle; a custom ’58 Chevy Del-Ray; a Galpin-customized ’32 Ford Roadster as well as a pair of matching Jaguar XK’s, old and new.

Galpin will represent Aston Martin in the convention center’s Concourse Hall showcasing not only the V8 and V12 Vantage, DB9, DBS and Rapide, but also its very own custom Aston Martin, the “AMWH,” a tuned version of the V12 Vantage not publicly seen before. Alongside the stable of factory and custom cars from the British automaker, Galpin will display Aston Martin’s ultra-exclusive hyper-car, the One-77. The One-77 will be on display for a limited time, only available to be seen by the public through the first weekend of the show.

2011 S60 T6

Taking a page out of Volvo racing history, this turbocharged 2011 S60 T6 is rated at 300 horsepower and gives 325 pound-feet of torque. Its custom classic pastel blue PPG paint designed by GAS, R-design front and rear bumpers, custom grille and diffuser all give it the Volvo European racing feel. GAS painted all the exterior trim, including the center roof panel, gloss black. To give it an aggressive stance, GAS also added Heico lowering springs and Forgiato three-piece lightweight 20-inch wheels and BF Goodrich KW2 tires. The interior features custom blue leather seats with French stitching and piping that match the exterior. A custom suede headliner and dark navy custom carpet round out this gorgeous Volvo!

2011 V12 Vantage

2012 Shelby Mustang Super Snake

This 2012 Shelby Mustang Super Snake strikes with a mean 1000HP! GAS took this monster and made it even meaner! GAS cut it up and made it a custom all-metal wide body Shelby adding 9 inches to its waist and including a one-off handmade Shelby suspension and chassis bracing. In addition, GAS applied a custom black paint with custom painted Tungsten Grey racing stripes. GAS equipped this beast with custom made brushed aluminum Forgiato GTR lightweight 3-piece wheels with Super Snake insignia and Pirelli 335/30/20 rear and 295/35/20 racing compound front tires. Staying true to the old school, GAS sealed up the rear quarter windows. The Shelby was loud, but not loud enough, so GAS added electric exhaust cutouts to finish up this beast of a Shelby.

Jaguar XK & E-Type

At the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Galpin Jaguar revealed this matching set of new and vintage XK Roadsters to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the legendary E-Type Jaguar! This one-of-a-kind new 2011 Jaguar XK Roadster was painted to match our classic Primrose colored vintage E-Type Jaguar sports car, which is part of Galpin’s private collection. In addition to the exterior Primrose paint, the interior wood trim has been color-matched to enhance the vintage effect on the new Jaguar XK. A black chrome treatment was also applied to the factory chrome trim and 20” wheels.

Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s “Tweedy Pie”

Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s “Tweedy Pie” is one of the most recognized T-Buckets in history, selling over 11 million model kits and counting since 1963! Tweedy Pie is a 1923 Ford Model T on a ‘32 Ford chassis, featuring some of Roth’s earliest pinstriping. It runs a Chevy 265 V8 with 6 Stromberg 97 carbs, Ford 3-speed trans and a banjo rear end. Owned for over 40 years by the Lavoy family, Tweedy Pie was sold in 2006 to Larry Tarantolo, who lightly restored it along with fellow Roth aficionado, Dave Shuten of Galpin Auto Sports. Much to everyone’s surprise, it was then thrust back into the public eye at the 2006 Detroit AutoRama, where Ed “Big Daddy” Roth was honored as the featured builder of the year. Tweedy Pie is now at home at Galpin with the largest collection of Ed Roth’s custom creations and memorabilia!

The vehicle also incorporates a Total Control Products coil over front suspension system, Maeco Motorsports modified road racing rear suspension system, VariShock adjustable shocks, McLeod racing clutch, handmade custom grille and aluminum bed cover. Keeping it to the ground are American Racing 17×9.5 427 Cobra style wheels with Nitto NT05 315/35 ZR 17 tires. To stop the machine, Galpin’s Classic Auto Service and GAS installed a Wilwood 4-wheel disc brake system. The interior features a custom roll cage, Scat Elite bucket seats with a 5-point racing seatbelt system, and to keep it old school, a factory original AM radio. This creation has gone from scrap yard to custom show car!

GAS is attacking the streets with this 2012 Focus ATK. It started with GAS designing and fabricating a complete custom fascia and body kit. Next, GAS created a one-of-a-kind Matte Alchemy Grey paint, coated with metallic gold pearl by PPG; which shifts color with each look. This head turning paint job is complemented by frosted taillights and Gloss Black accents and badges. Finishing off the exterior are Eibach lowering springs, a Borla exhaust system, 3d Carbon rear spoiler and gold powder coated Monotech 19×8.5 wheels with Vredestein tires. Once you open the door, you are blown away by a complete custom Katzkin leather and suede interior and a crisp sound system powered by JL Audio, featuring two 8W7s, two digital amplifiers and four 6 ½” speakers housed in a custom enclosure. This is the new breed of street machine!
