Ron Hornaday was hired in 1955 as head mechanic in Galpin Ford’s Service Department. When Frank Galpin noticed he was a skilled and winning driver, he surprised him with a brand new 1960 Ford Galaxie Starliner to modify for West Coast NASCAR racing. Galpin Ford won four consecutive NASCAR West Coast Division Championships (1961-64), Hornaday winning the latter two years. With Galpin’s big move to Roscoe Blvd. in 1966, Ron and Bert focused on taking care of customers, rather than racing. Sad for racing fans, but Ron’s leadership as Galpin Ford’s service manager helped make Galpin Ford the #1 Ford Dealership in the World! Ron retired from Galpin in 1999 after working at Galpin for over 44 years. Ron Hornaday passed away in 2008. We all miss him dearly! Shown above is our 1964 Ford Galaxie recreation of Hornaday’s racecar, built by Dave Shuten and hand lettered by Dennis Jones, to honor him with the “Galpin Legend Award” and announce the dedication of our Ron Hornaday Service Department at our 5th Annual Galpin Car Show VIP Night, accepting on his behalf was his family with son, Ron Hornaday, Jr.
